Jennifer - 2 1/2 Year Success Story

Jennifer.jpg

This is an amazing update on our client Jennifer who was placed 2 1\2 years ago, told by our Employment Specialist Jenni when she stopped in to see Jennifer at work.

Jennifer is happier than she has ever been.  Her supervisors ran up to me when I walked in and thanked us over and over for giving them the best employee and friend!! Jennifer is still working as a housekeeper and she has found her forever place with this role. She is happily sharing her life with her boyfriend, 1 cat and 2 iguanas in West Valley. It’s refreshing to be reminded that we change lives and help people not only gain the skills for a first time job, but help people keep a job that they love for years.

Jenni, thank you for the update on Jennifer and thank you to all VR Offices for the continued opportunity to serve such wonderful clients!

Jace.jpg

Jace comes from a background of hard work founded on 12 years of experience working on his family's farm. Jace wanted to expand his skill-sets and gain some more work experience in the community. Jace started working with Janet from Innovative Harbor and they quickly got to work networking for job opportunities in Nephi. They put in applications and met with managers from a variety of businesses. When they met with the managers at the 7-11 gas station for an interview, Jace was offered the job on the spot!  He is cleaning, making and bagging ice, cleaning the pumps and anything else he is asked to do. He loves his job and gets along with all the employees. The employees and boss love him and can't give him enough praise. Jace has been working on the job now for over  3 months and is doing very well! Great job Jace!

A special thank you to Evan his VR counselor in Delta and Janet his Employment Specialist for their continued support of Jace!

Jeff Young

Jeff Young struggled with school initially. He faced many challenges including a learning disability that put him behind. Instead of facing his challenges, he reacted getting into fights, skipping school, and heading down a path of no success.

In conjunction with Utah's Vocational Rehabilitation programs, Innovative Harbor worked with Jeff Young to face his challenges. Through the class called Why Try, Jeff learned to act instead of just reacting.

Next, Innovative Harbor was able to connect Jeff with a position with Utah's Department of Natural Resources. Jeff loves his job and his employers enjoy working with him. Now Jeff is on track for graduating high school and has a future with the DNR.

Jorge Garcia

Jorge Garcia's story starts with his family. None of his family members have graduated from high school. Jorge (George) will be the first. He will also be the first to attend college.

High school was tough for Jorge. He tended to want to skip school with his friends rather than try to do the work. One of his teachers had him take a test that revealed that he was dyslexic. After receiving help and mostly because of his mom's influence, he graduated.

Innovative Harbor helped Jorge find a job in an area of his interest--auto mechanics. Labrum Ford took him on as a Lot Tech which required him to wash cars, pick up parts, drive customer's to and from the dealership, and other beginning work. After a year he progressed and now assists the other Lube Techs with their work.

The next step for Jorge is to attend a technical college starting July of 2014 . He is pursuing his dream of someday owning his own mechanical shop.
